Mitterkräften Ried (Single Vineyard)

The Ried Mitterkräften is located in the small village of Putzing at an elevation of 214 to 234 meters above sea level and directly adjoins the Ried Oberes Feld. This vineyard is especially known for its elegant Zweigelt, as an impressive 60% of the site is planted with this grape variety.

Thanks to the noticeably cooler microclimate of this Ried—largely influenced by a nearby forest to the west—Zweigelt develops a particularly elegant fruit character here. The south-facing exposure and the loess soil also play a key role in shaping our Zweigelt.

Geology and Soil

In this vineyard, our vines take root in sandy soils around 12 million years old with dry conditions, which are overlain—particularly toward the north—by powdery loess. Loess is calcareous rock dust that was blown here from the Alpine region during the vegetation-poor cold phases of the Ice Age.
