Huntspointen Ried (Single Vineyard)

At around 230 meters above sea level, our vines in the Ried Huntspointen take root on a hillside in Obersdorf. The site is south-facing and a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the view. From here, you can look directly toward Vienna and admire the edge of the Marchfeld with the Vienna skyline in the background.

The vines not only thrive on the beautiful view, but also appreciate the loess soil. Thanks to this soil and the south-facing exposure, Grüner Veltliner grows here with a character marked by exotic fruit. Even in challenging vintages, the grapes ripen exceptionally well, bringing a distinctive depth and complexity to the glass.

Geology and Soil

The soil of the Ried Huntspointen consists mainly of calcareous, deep loess, covered by a layer of chernozem (black earth). Loess is calcareous rock dust that was carried here from the Alpine region during the vegetation-poor cold phases of the Ice Age.

Its fine-grained, lime-rich structure gives the soil an exceptional ability to retain water and nutrients. Especially in warm, dry years, it buffers climatic extremes, reduces drought stress, and allows for a steady, balanced ripening process. At the same time, the soil remains well aerated—an essential condition for deep-rooting, healthy vines.
