Hoadberg Ried (Single Vineyard)
With a slope gradient of 25°, the Ried Hoadberg in Putzing is our steepest vineyard. The vine rows were originally laid out straight down the slope, which can make working with tractors quite challenging—luckily, most of the work here is done by hand anyway. Secluded and surrounded by trees, this vineyard has great potential.
It is our Riesling that grows here and enjoys the southern exposure and the wonderful view of Vienna. The vineyard leaves its mark on our Riesling and shapes its character. It combines playful lightness with a powerful structure on the palate. The crystal-clear Riesling fruit is subtly interwoven in a compact yet delicate body with a fine toasted note and invigorating acidity.
Geology and Soil
Loess and loess loam form the subsoil of our vineyard. Above this lies predominantly chernozem (black earth). A distinctive feature of the Ried Hoadberg is its high lime content (calcium and magnesium carbonate > 5%) and the great depth of the loose topsoil layer.
Due to the dry conditions of this site and the high permeability of the soil, our Riesling vines in the Ried Hoadberg must root very deeply to reach water. This is what gives our Riesling its very distinctive character.
